This Saturday (April 05) I played my quaterfinal match of Moscow Cup versus Natalya Nikonova.
After the drawing it was decided that I will be number one in the first game. I rejected RIF rules at the first step. Natalya rejected Sakata rules. From three remained rules (Jonsson, Taraguchi, Yamaguchi) I predicted that I can more completely control the opening part under Jonsson and Yamaguchi rules. Therefore, I rejected Taraguchi rules. Natalya rejected Jonsson rules. Yamaguchi were the only remained rules. So, the game was start by Yamaguchi rules. It was the first game by Yamaguchi rules in Moscow tournaments. |

| Playing by Yamaguchi rules (as well as by any new opening rules) it is interesting to try something specific only for this rules. Besides interest, it could be unexpected for the opponent. Therefore, I put Indirect 4 opening and declared 6 (six) fifth alternative moves. |

| I wrote about i4(6) briefly in my topic ""dictionary" of Yamaguchi rules" in this my blog. Natalya saw this my paper but did not study detaily. The 4th move of Natalya was not best. |

| I consider the move 4.i10 as the strongest for white in i4(6). After Natalya's 4th move I put 5th moves to the points h7, i6, i7, i8, j9 and k8. |

The position after the 6th move is the shifted d9 with nonoptimal 6th move: 1-5 2-2 3-3 4-6 5-1 6-4. This position is considered in the book of Kozhin and Nosovsky. The first desire is to play 9-k7 but this move is weak:

Natalya resigned after 25.
In second game I was the player number two. In previous games at this cup Natalya frequently played Indirect 1 and had good results there. For example, she defeated Makarov in i1 at 20th move. I had not chanced to avoid Indirect 1 since Natalya had possibilities to force this opening under all opening rules excepting Taraguchi. So, I needed to prepare something rare in i1. Naturally, Natalya rejected Taraguchi rules at the first step. I rejected Yamaguchi rules. Natalya rejected Jonsson rules. I rejected RIF rules. The only remained rules were Sakata rules. So, the game was played by Sakata rules. As I expected, Natalya put Indirect 1 opening. I put rare 4th and 5th moves which were considered, nevertheless, in the book of Kozhin and Nosovsky. |

| In the book of Kozhin and Nosovsky 7-8 8-j8 is considered. After 7 I analyze during some time 8-9 but it was difficult to calculate all consequences after 9-8 or 9-k10. So, I had preferred more calm 8-8. |

| After 12 the position is quite equal but black must be careful. |

| Good 13 is shown at this diagram. If white tries to attack the foul point then black obtains a good position. Therefore, 14-g8 is more preferable for white. |

Natalya made a hard mistake at 13th move. White won immediately by the foul 3x3 at point j7.
In another quaterfinals Mikhailov defeated Sirategyan 2:0, Makarov defeated Tarasevich 2:0. The last finished match was the match Golosov - Kazarin. Mikhail Kazarin won two games in situations where only a win allowed him to continue the match. After two normal (95 mins) and two fast (35 mins) games the score was 2:2. Finally, Mikhail very confidently won two blitz (5 mins) games and advanced to a semifinal. |

| The semifinal pairs are Tarannikov - Kazarin and Mikhailov - Makarov. The semifinal matches consist of 4 games each. |
