This Sunday (April 06) I played two first games in my semifinal match of Moscow Cup versus Mikhail Kazarin.
I played with Mikhail already in the first game of Moscow Cup. I had described this game in the topic "Moscow Cup has started" in this my blog. In that game Mikhail made a losing mistake already at 6th move but it was his first game by new rules. I preducted in my topic that in the following part of the tournament Mikhail will play much more stronger. This prediction was realized. Mikhail defeated Konstantin Nikonov and eliminated him from the Cup. Later, in the quaterfinal Mikhail won very tight match versus Victor Golosov losing in score twice during the match.
After the drawing it was decided that I will play the first game as the number one. At the first step I rejected RIF rules. Mikhail rejected Yamaguchi rules. I rejected Sakata rules. Mikhail rejected Taraguchi rules. Jonsson rules were the only remained rules. So, the game was played by Jonsson rules.
In games by Jonsson rules I try to create unknown situation for opponents (but known for me). Usually it appears that I make all opening moves including fifth alternatives.

Mikhail had not an idea what to do and had swapped.
I made the 4th move and declared three fifth alternative moves. |

| Mikhail was not sure about three moves in this position. So, he decided to swap again. |

| I analyzed this position some time before. I remembered two moves that gave an advantage to black (without detailed variants) and two equal moves (with some variants since I play it offline in internet). |

| Mikhail thought quite long time. His choice was not best. |

| At this diagram the equal 5th move is shown. It is possible also 5-7 6-8 7-5 8-6 with the same position but the playing after 5-7 is more evident, therefore I had preferred 5-5. The moves 5-i9 and 5-j7 give a significant advantage to black. |

| Mikhail chose 5-5. After 6 I made the best 7th move. All lines of white are controlled whereas black has a solid concentration and can develop the advantage playing in some situation the three in l8 creating lines sufficient for VCFs. |

| In this position I made a mistake! I considered my position as quite strong without too sharp moves. Therefore, I had played 9-i8 without deep doubts. At the same time after 9-k6 I had a sure win. |

| If 10-10 then 11-11 and the threat of VCF gives immediate win to black. |

| After my 9 and 10-10 the move 11 is bad since after 12 white can stop attacks of black creating the foul 4x4 in the point j8. |

| Therefore I made calm moves. After 13 black has an obvious advantage but white can try to defend after 14-i7 or 16-j9. |

After the move 16 made in the game, black has a forced win. Mikhail resigned after 23.
In the second game I was the player number two. At a preliminary stage Mikhail defeated Nikonov after the main 5th move in Indirect 5. Therefore, I tried to avoid the possibility of my opponent to put Indirect 5. Mikhail rejected Yamaguchi rules. I rejected RIF rules. Mikhail rejected Jonsson rules. From two remained rules (Sakata and Taraguchi) I had the possibility to choose the opening by Taraguchi rules. Thus, I rejected Sakata rules. Taraguchi rules were the only remained rules. So, the game was played by Taraguchi rules.
Mikhail made the first move to the center. I swapped. Mikhail put a diagonal piece. I did not want to give him a possibility to put Indirect 5, therefore I decided to make my own move. I chose Indirect 8. I played this opening some times in recent Moscow tournaments but I thought that Mikhail did not see these games or at least did not study it detaily. |

| Mikhail had played 4-i10. I decided that Mikhail wants to transfer into Direct 11 (after the game Mikhail said that he did not even thought about this). The main tool to avoid Direct 11 after this 4 is 5-j8. Therefore, I made this 5th move. |

Mikhail chose white.
6-7 or symmetrical 6-j9 are considered as strongest here. |

| 8-8 at this diagram is interesting. Black can keep the white's pair 8-10 by different ways: 13-g8, 13-i7 or 13-j6 but the optimal development is under the question. |

| After 8-8 in the game black stabilizes the upper flank and has an advantage in the bottom part of the board. If 16-18 then 17-16 and black has a strong attack too. |

Playing 19-19 black started the final attack. The possibilities of white to defend need to be checked more carefully. The move 22-25 seems to be the last chance of white. After 23 black has a sure win. Mikhail resigned after 29.
The match will be continued at the next weekend. Another semifinal Mikhailov - Makarov will be played in parallel. |
