I am currently in China for a vacation。 My trip started a week ago in Guangzhou. I stayed in GZ for six days and on Monday I flew to Beijing. Next Tuesday I will have a train to Shanghai, and I will stay there also about one week. Then I will return to GZ at least a few days prior to my trip back to Finland.
I must say I had a great time in Guangzhou. I got to meet many local players and we enjoyed some renju, other sports, dinners and a bit of night life as well. The weather in Guangdong these days is really hot hand humid.. Someone said Its like beeing in a badly heated sauna. :) I also enjoyed local cuisines, altough many dishes that are available are a bit foreign for a Scandinavian taste.. :D
Yesterday it was my first full day in Beijing. Afternoon I met Cao Dong and we walked around in Tiananmen and shopping streets nearby for a few hours. Then we met Chen Wei and his wife and enjoyed a very nice dinner, followed by a few hours of pool (billiards). Today I have just taken it easy.. Walked a bit in Qianmen area and had some lunch in my favoured Muslim place. Then it was time to sit down and start this diary.. :) Unfortunately this net bar computer doesnt allow me to upload pictures from my card, so I try to do that later on. I will continue this diary after some time, so stay tuned... |

Yesterday I arrived to Shanghai. So far I have stayed six days in Guangzhou and Beijing.
I really liked my visit to Beijing. Last Saturday I visited RIF China office and I participated a club meeting by playing quite a few games with friends. I used most of the time in Beijing with other travellers by visiting some sightseeing, shopping and partyin'. The olympics are coming, so im many places price level is already increasing substantially. In my hostel almost everything costed more than last year.. Anyway I hope I get a change to visit Beijing again sometime after the olympics.
Yesterday I arrived to Shanghai by a night train. I first checked in to a familiar hostel and then called an old friend of mine. Then we walked around shopping places, had a few meals and bunch of local beer.. :) I also informed local renju club of my arrival and they invited me to play a tournament on Saturday. As I am planning on staying here at least over the weekend I will naturally gladly participate.
It is now half way of my trip. 2 more weeks remaining. I was earlier planning to stop by in Yunnan province and visit Dali for a week or so. I have to see if I get some cheap flight tickets and if yes, I might go there for a brief visit. There is lot to do in Shanghai, so I could easily spend the remaining time here and a few days in GZ before my flight back home. Perhaps I will stop by in Zhejiang province on the way. As Ants wrote in his blog, they have a nice renju club there also.. I have been in Hangzhou a few times before and the west lake is really beautiful! |

Today I met Gu Wei and Ge Chengyu in a teehouse. We played about three hours.. Such a nice evenin indeed!
Anyway I will write some more when I have a suitable moment... |
