Nakamura won the 3rd game at 41th move against Meijin Hasegawa. Nakamura got 3points so he became Meijin again by the minimum game. The 3rd game was started by D8. Hasegawa changed 18th move as ordinaly. But then Hasegawa's protection seemed weak. Nakamura showed quick victory. Nakamura got the Meijin Title 18 times (this year was 35th Meijinsen, it means more than half he has been Meijin!!) Especially, he has not lost this year from 1st qualification, his score was 17-0-2 totally!! It is amazing. How long has he continued Meijin in the world?? Who knows?

Dear Renju Friends!
NAKAMURA WON THE 2ND GAME OF MEIJIN MATCH'97, TOO!!
The 2nd game between Meijin Hasegawa and Nakamura was held at 26th of Oct. in Kyoto.
Nakamura again beated Hasegawa by 45th move. The game started by Hasegawa's tentative
black. Hasegawa chose D11, which is his favorite opening. Nakamura played as black again!!
and the situation went the same pattern until move 19. Hasegawa changed the 20th move as
Nakamura suggested last game. But Hasegawa seemed a little passive. His move made a little
weak. So Nakamura made good moves at 31,33 and reached to win easily. Nakamura got 2
points totally, it means one more point will lead him to Meijin again. The 2nd game will
be held at 23th of Nov.
There is a special page showing both the games.

I have now received a new Excel file only for the WC Qualification tournament
http://www.renju.nu/wc5/wc5-q-p.xls
which hopefully is right. I converted it and substituted the old Qualification
Tournament html-file with a new file.

Renju WC Results will be found in an Excel file on the following address: ftp://194.87.49.195/RENJU/WC5/t97-2.xls. As this Excel file includes more information than on the html-pages on the same server mentioned below in the news of August, 11 I have converted the Excel file into the following html-files:
I have received a remark that the Qualification tournament places are not exactly
right. However I have not received info about what is wrong. When I receive information I
will change what is wrong.

New info from Latvian Championship - WC Qualification
First Final game was played on Sunday between Arnis Veidemanis and Aldis Reims for Latvian
97 Champion title and for Latvian place in WCh Final.
Game was in 3D opening, Reims was black. Reims hold initiative all the game, but
Veidemanis was precious in defence. After more than 4 hours when both sides were in
boyomi, Arnis made a small mistake which grew into a big one and Reims won after 69 moves.
Now Arnis need to win last and second game to continue fight for overall victory.
