As a comments:
1. We have a right to wait good performance of S.Shevelyov,
M.Kazarin, D.Nekrasov and Yu.Savrasova at Youth World
Championship in Arjeplog this summer.
Kazarin had a very strong tournament. He win Savrasova,
Krasnonosov, Makarov, played draw with Sinyov and losed
Soosyrv, Nikonov and Fedorkin.
Shevelyov had a good luck as winner, but there are won games
against Soosyrv, Fedorkin, Nikonov in his active.
2. Historical moment! First "cyborg" played among peoples.
Computer program Meijin-2000 under famous Oleg Stepanov
control left behind some strong players.
3. It was really a nice event because some renju senjors join
us: you may find a name of Sergei Pereplyotchikov among
participants. It was first Sergei's tournament after about
8 years delay. Sergei Maslyaev and inimitable Mikhail Biryukov
were observed among spectators.
Moscow Club thanks all visitors from Tallinn, Nizhny Novgorod,
Poduga, Volgograd, Belgorod, St.Petersburg and invites everybody
to take part in the next Moscow Open Tournament.
Best Regards,
Konstantin Nikonov

This letter includes very interesting information about
Online Renju Class. Please, read more belo. But first I want you to notice
something else.
--------------
For many years we have had a link from the RIF web site
to Victor Allis site with his computer proof that black will
always win when you are playing completele free gomoku.
However the file with the proof is a compressed postscriptfile and
any players have had problems with the ps-file.
They have not been able to open it. Therefore I have converted
this file into a pdf-file which is much easier to open for most people.
You can find it on the RIF web site:

Online Renju Class
Hello!
Perhaps it might be interesting for many players to know that we have an
Online Renju Class in Internet every Thursday.
The online class has acted over one year and recently moved to
www.playsite.com until we solve the problems with 5lin server.
We study renju openings as well as go through the ideas and tactics
while discussing the openings.
We have the website which tells everything abut the Online Renju Class,
including student list, additional study materials for regular students,
etc.
http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/renjuclass/index.html
Anyone who has an interest towards renju may join it. Those who cannot
join the classes due to lack of time or other reasons, they can download
the class materials from the website. Even high level players might find
useful to review some theories and variants which they haven't played
for a long time.
Currently, we study i11 opening. Previously we had studied d11, d3, d8,
i6, i12 openings in 5lin server. The data of those old classes are not
available in the web though.
It is good to see that the class is very interactive - students discuss
during the class time, after class time they do their homework, they
post their answers to guestbook or send me by email. I receive many
emails in the topic of Online Renju Class every day.
We have students from all over the world. The students list is growing
every day.
Take a look at http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/renjuclass/index.html and
see how we are doing. :-)

Notice:
Ando has remarked that sometimes you cannot see the Online Renju Class site
and the possible connectivity failure may be caused by xoom.com poor service
so the reason is not that the page has some wrong or missing links.
If Ando will find a better place for Online Renju Class the pages will be
moved and I will let you know in Renju Newsletter.
If sometimes you cannot connect to the server, please, try again after some
short time and maybe then it works.
You can find a link to Online Renju Class from the RIF Web site
if you from the head of the page make the choice "Study renju and become a better player".

I have received the following information. Probably all of you
playing on the server already have received the same information.
-------------------------------------
Pbmserv is back (sort of)
Due to the severity of the crash of this past week (we lost two of
the

inadequacy of
my subscription logs, backups, etc. I have been forced to
reinitialize

point in the past, this address was used to contact pbmserv in one way or
another...

At this time, you are no longer a member of the server. No one is...
***********************************************************************
If you'd like to rejoin the server, please send a message to
pbmserv@gamerz.net with a message SUBJECT of
Subject: signup USERID PASSWORD
Please signup with your normal USERID/PASSWORD. I really want to
discourage folks from trying to take this opportunity to "hijack"
other peoples' accounts. I have logs. I can verify things if I get
any complaints... 8^)
You also might wish to wait a day or two before issuing any challenges to
pbmserv-users. That list was cleared/restarted as well.
If you do not wish to rejoin, you do not need to do anything, and I
apologize for this intrusion.

5lin game server will stop service on May 15'th, 2000
Tommy,
I am sad to tell you about the shutdown of 5lin game server on May 15'th,
2000 because Hongkong Telecom is going to take their server back. Many renju
players are also sad about it. 5lin is a renju game server that have game
database and stores hundreds of thousand games. 5lin is also one where the
judgement of forbidden moves are 100% correct. Ando has been busy with
collecting good games from this server for the past weeks, but this is a big
job. The on-line classroom that Ando hosts on every Thu. should be moved to
somewhere else, too.
Hopefully, there will be more good renju game servers in the future where
players from all over the world can play the game and make friends.

Dino

Report from China
Dear Mr. Tommy Maltell,
We couldn't give you a prompt reply due to the internal problem of our
email system. Now here is the report on the status of China.
Since joined RIF in 1996, RIF China has been doing his utmost in
promoting Renju the game in China. It can be shown in several
remarkable view. The "Compaq Cup" of Beijing International Open
Tournament in 1997, the "Minsheng Banking Corp. Cup" of the 2nd World
Youth Championship in 1998 where Chinese young players won 2 gold
medals, one 2nd place and one 3rd place and the most significant
tournament in Chinese Renju history, the 6th WC in 1999. For a
non-governmental organization who under extreme financial express, it
has been a hard job for RIF China. However, our efforts was not in
vain, Chinese players won 9th place in group A, one Champion and one
3rd place in group B. RIF China now established its own office with 9
permanent staff and 15 part time staff. Besides, we also have 20
coaches, 53 players with Dan (name list attached) and thousands of
players with Kyu. We also have one training school in Beijing. Every
year, there are at least 10 competitions excludes one regular
nationwide competition in every April. The rapid developing rate is
also contribute to the TV programs and newspapers. RIF China masters a
TV program on CCTV and it covers all over China. Nearly 50 kinds of
newspapers ever reported Renju activities. This is a huge jump compares
with 10 years ago when few people ever heard of the name "Renju" and
its professional rules. With the support of Chinese Qi Yuan and China
General Sports Association, RIF China will definitely do more in the
coming new millennium.
We are grateful to the visit of Mister president and your wife.
We also appreciate the continuous support from Japan Renju Sha
since 1992 and the help from Swedish Renju Association. We pay
great attention to the friendship between China and each member
countries. We are proud of being one part of the Renju family. We
understand that we have long way to go, so we must work hard.
Hope that we will have some players like Mr.Nakamura and
Mr.Meritee in future.
The email address for RIF China will be changed to
"rifchina@king-promise.com" with immediate effect. Please send all
your email to the new address.

Renju Newsletter No 10 - 2000

Start of WC via e-mail
Richard Ronglie kindly started the boards of
renju e-mail tournaments-2000.
Three players -T.Taimla (tunnet Group C)
A.Khramov (khramov Group D)
K.Poddubny (underouk Group E)
in reality did not registered their userids.
To simplify the pools starting, I signed up for
those players at PbEM. Now I contacted with these players
and waiting for their reply to re-address their userids.
Please see below the boards of our tournaments.
You can get it when use "Renju Games" command.
When "Renju Standings" command used, you can get the
server's tables of results in our tournaments.
With best wishes
Oleg Fedorkin

It means that each program will try to solve 10 Renju problems. (You can
try
http://194.87.49.195/Renju/nosovsky/
to solve 1-st DAN TEST as practice of the championship.)
Each participant able to send me one problem , which will be include to
the
WC 10 problems.
(If it will be 8 participants I'll add 2 problems and 8 problems will be
from participants).
We need briliant idea problems , very difficult move which is key point
in
this problem.
We don't need such problems like ordinary win of after 30-50 moves.
So, please suggest problems with key point aim.
Program have to solve task for 1 hour.
It is possible for operater to make moves (answers for other side).
Problems have not be only VCT or VCF.
It is not TSUME RENJU (as Japanese understand it) it means that it is
possible to have problems with briliant nice pause (mise) among 10 WC
problems (I hope that it will be one minimum).
Second is Renju Tournament WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.
It will be round robin Tournament with 2 games (Tentative Black and
Tentative White) with each opponent.
RIF rules are used, but only 24 openning is possible (not 26).
1 hour for 30 own moves then bayomi 10 own moves 20 minutes, then again
the
same bayomi.
Requairements to programs.
It is nessesary to have possibility to load *.pos files for participants
of
Solving WC.
If you need computer from ORGANIZERS we can only suggest WINDOWS-98
compatable computers.
64RAM/366-450 Celeron, Pentium II mashines.
You can bring your own computer if you want.
All programs need to have English Menu.
If you want to only send protected version of your program to organizers
please send it (or demo) in the begining of July.
We have such experience last WC it was a lot of bugs in English Menu,
using
of programs.
We need time to understand how it works and neet some time to govern
those
programs.
If you want to visit Russia , please contact me (Alexander Nosovsky
stigma.ltd@relcom.ru) I'll make invitation for your visa and book hotel.

with all late additions.
(Direct URL-address: http://www.renju.nu/wcemail.htm)
2.PLEASE ASK THE REFEREE OF YOUR GROUP
in the case of any trouble or problem!
3.Normal time-move controls are 135 days for each player
till 120 move (then draw). For players from the same country
the time control is 115 days for each player.
4.The winners of semi-final groups will play in the final
tournament-2001. Very probably the places 2-5(?) in
semi-final tournaments will play in the semi-final
tournament next year, others - in quater-finals.

2nd Team World Championship will held 2000. 04.30 - 05.06 in Tallinn.
During Baltic League in Stockholm we discussed tournament system with
Stefan
karlsson as members of Sport Commision and we suggest following:
If there will be 5 or 6 teams, we shall play Round Robin first and 4
best teams will play semifinals and finals which consist of 2 matches.
In case of 7 or 8 teams we shall have same system as it was in 1.Team WC -
teams will be divided into 2 groups which will play 2 times Round Robin.
Later 2 best from groups will play semifinals and finals, which consist of
2
matches.
In case of 9 teams we shall have just Round Robin.
In case of 10 - 12 teams we divide teams into 2 groups and have Round
Robin
for both groups, later semifinals and finals.
I shall inform very soon about accomondation prices and so on.
Please let me know if team from Your country would like to take part and
which papers do You need from me.
In team should be 4 players and 1 reserve.

will play instead of R.Kolpakov (8th and 3rd places in previous

A prompt report of The 37th Meijin-sen match

Dear Renju friends.
The 3 round of The 37th Meijin-sen final match was finished.
Mr. Nakamura won.
The win-loss records between Nakamura and Kawamura,
is 2.5 points and 0.5 points. So, The 37th Meijin-sen winner
is Mr. Nakamura.
He won this tournament for 3 consecutive years, and he won
20 times ! It is a great achievement.

Opening was I3. It was unusual for Mr. Nakamura to chose I3.
Of course, Mr. Kawamura chose white.
1-11 were the standard moves, but 12,14 were aggressive
good moves.
15 was very dangerous. 16-22 were right. But 24 was a big big
mistake. If 24 was A or 29, white won.
COMMENT
Mr. Nakamura
I'm glad to win Meijin-sen 20 times. It was my target.
But today's game was the worst. I wanted to play by black, so I
chose I3. But I'm not used to playing I3, it was no good.
From now, I will try to do my best.
Mr. Kawamura
When I started to attack from 16, I thought I can win. But 24 was
mistake. 25 escaped my notice. Oh, no. It's unbelievable.....
It's a pity of me not to win this game.
But next time, I would like to challenge to Mr. Nakamura.

According to the decision, recently adopted by RIF
Correspondence Commission, the final tournament-2000
will consist of 10 players. At the present moment
V.Golosov would play instead of S.Bondarenko,
K.Hasegava would play instead of R.Kolpakov,
N.Kawamura would play instead of Yu.Tarannikov.
However I guess that some players just forgot
to send me their applications or they had some
problems with their e-mails. So I prolongate the time
of application receiving and will wait for the applications
from renjuplayers which wish to take part in Renju World
Championship-2000 via e-mail till 16,January,2000.
